“We’re living in a pretty strange time. I went into a shop to buy my wife some clothes and I wanted them gift-wrapped. And they had this big plasma screen on with these women on the catwalk. I thought, ‘God almighty, what have we become?’ These girls — anorexic, walking like machines, no soul. You look at fashion magazines and you think, ‘What are we living in?’ You look at the red carpet, Paris Hilton, you know, these people and you think, ‘Is there anything going on up there?’ It’s a mass enslavement and it’s kind of fascism. And it’s the androgyny of it; the androgyny of the human soul.”    -  Sir Anthony Hopkins

Random Admission

I recently told someone that I want to become a writer.  In truth, that’s only one of a handful of things I wish I was.  Regretably, though, when inspiration strikes and I think I’m on the verge of “The Great American Novel”, it turns out that I can write two pages of great dialogue…… and nothing more.

Interactive Idea

I totally stole this text below from a comment left on World’s Strongest Librarian, but since it promotes creativity & literary thought, I presumed he’d be cool with it.

Ethan — try this: close your eyes and think what you’d do tomorrow if you could do anything in the world. Money is no object. If you need superpowers, that’s cool, too. You can do anything at all tomorrow, with anyone you want… you can go anywhere, do anything, help somebody, see something cool… whatever you want.

Now, with your dream day in mind, think of something or somebody that wants to stop you from doing it. Give them a reason to stop you, something THEY want instead, even if it doesn’t make sense (it just needs to make sense to them).

Somebody is blocking your path to what you want to do tomorrow. How would you get around them? How would you defeat this foe and end up with what you want?

Got it?

Now… write a story about it all.

So, here’s the deal. You follow-through with what was suggested above, and I’ll do the same.

I know it’s nearing the end of the week, so instead of tomorrow, I’ll probably post mine on Sunday or Monday.  If you get a rush of inspiration and don’t want to wait, go ahead and leave yours in the comments to this post.

I think it’ll be great fun to see what comes out of it.
