2010 Blog Plan

Posted: January 2nd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , | Comments Off on 2010 Blog Plan

Well, this isn’t so much a “plan” in the sense that I could follow it to pull off a heist.  It’s more a list of traits that I want my blog to embody in the new year.  A set of reminders for myself that I want to strive towards.

– Consistent!!

I need to use this as an exercise to improve myself.  Like all exercise, it’s best when done regularly, not sporadically.

– Discuss Intelligently

– Revelant!
Connect the dots, obscure is fine, haughty is bleh

– Don’t be afraid of Long-Form
If it’s worth the time for you to read it, it’s worth the time for me to fully discuss it.

– Intuitive
I don’t really know how this applies, but it sounds good.  I’ll figure it out later

– More Engagement
No, not the down-on-one-knee kind; the interacting-with-whoever-reads-this kind.  I work best when challenged from an outside sourse.  What better source than the one right here?

I’m sure this list will be evolving.  This is just what I got down in 10 minutes today.
List done.

It's the New Year, get more stuff DONE!

Posted: January 2nd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , | Comments Off on It's the New Year, get more stuff DONE!

This is now hanging up at my desk at work.  I’m pretty sure this week I’ll be pointing to it at least a few times.

From the DONE Manifesto, by Bre Pettis:

The Cult of Done Manifesto

  1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
  2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
  3. There is no editing stage.
  4. Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
  5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
  6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
  7. Once you’re done you can throw it away.
  8. Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
  9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
  10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
  11. Destruction is a variant of done.
  12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
  13. Done is the engine of more.

Wow, that sorta got off to a hostile start.  Sorry about that.  Got your attention though, huh?

So, here’s what to expect from Randomly Ryan

Whatever I feel like, sucka!!

Ok, sorry, that one got hostile again.  I really regret that.  I must be more hungry than I thought.

– Flip Books
– Cooking the Books
– Cook Books from which I can rarely cook
– Why does Mario Batali think you should cook entire animals at once??

– Graphs, same as above
– Hot Chicks I’ll never meet but will say are “in my five”
– Hot Chicks I did meet and had to turn down because they weren’t in my five

– A-Shirts (no, not really, but why are these the only letters followed by “shirt”?)
– Applesauce
– Awesome Street Art
– Deep Thoughts I have when I should probably be doing something more productive

Krantz may be my new hero

Exhibit A:  Dude got a TV show made about him and his friends that is A – Not on MTV and B – Pretty damn funny

Exhibit B:  Dude blogs, like actually blogs, and regularly.  Clearly got me beat there.

Exhibit C:  Dude plays poker for a living.  A very succesful living.

Exhibit D:  Dude quotes HIMYM in his blog.

Here’s an excerpt from his blog Dangerlion, and the subsequent HIMYM scene that goes with it.

8:15:12 PM jay: so its decision time amigo

8:16:52 PM jay: and you throw down your gloves and watch all those goddamn movies

****While writing this post, I was eliminated from a multi-table hold’em tournament online.  This is the shortest I’ve ever lasted.  Clearly the Kratz-skills aren’t absorbed from blogging alone.

Taken from Rotten Tomato’s list of the worst movies of the new century, here’s the ones I’ve seen.

In Theatre:
– Glitter
– The New Guy  (Eliza Dushku Bikini-montage warranted the price)
– Good Luck Chuck  (when will I learn Jessica Alba and/or Dane Cook = fail?)
– My Baby’s Daddy (hey, I was making a lot of bad choices back then…)
– Down to You
– Dueces Wild
– The Covenant
– Kicking It Old School
– Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever

Rented:
– Envy
– New Best Friend (rented multiple times, actually)
– Strange Wilderness

Bottom line, I love movies so much I’ve been blinded and wasted at least $200 on these crap movies.  Damn.

The List

Posted: May 27th, 2008 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , | Comments Off on The List
  • She almost has to be a brunette, though lately blondes have been making a comeback in my book. Redheads just remind me of sophmore year, though. Sorry.
  • She has to be witty.
  • She has to love movies (or else who’s going to watch random stuff with me?)
  • Must be a dog person, and not just the yappy kind. Otherwise it would just be awkward when my bulldog keeps chasing her lap-cat out of the room, and who really wants to have that fight?
  • The eyes: I’ve had a history of girls with green eyes, always alluring, but the door is still wide open for any color. The key is that the eyes have to belie an intelligence and compassion and verve for life that can’t be hidden.
  • The Olive Theory. I hate them, she can have them all
  • She should like helping the environment. I mean, I’m not asking for any kind of hippy-conservation expert, but interest in sustainability and changing your own life to reduce waste is key. Plus, do I really want a woman who doesn’t care what kind of world we leave to our chalupas?
  • She needs to appreciate, or at least tolerate, my random word uses, such as calling our future children “chalupas”
  • Non-smoker, of course. And yes, sneaking out to smoke while I’m asleep is still a deal-breaker.
  • To be continued….
