Sometimes I like to go off-the-grid for a few days.
Not that I want to live in a Unabomber-esque hut somewhere.
Just that occasionally I’ll let me phone bill lapse so that the thing shuts off for a few days and I can be un-connected for a bit.
Sorta like a self-reset for our digital world.

I want to be a guy whose writing and opinions people want to read, but I also want to still be just a guy. My output cannot operate in a vacuum separate from my humanity.

Fact:Â putting a face on a fruit of vegetable* makes it an instant character, and thus me chuckle.
Here’s a few examples I ran across today:

* Side-fact: putting a face on protein has the opposite affect.

Have I told you how much I love my mornings with Ann Curry?
I’m pretty sure she is the reason why HDTV was invented.
Point of Fact: She’s got a steady spot in my Nerd Five. (Yes, a list of 5 beautiful women than the nerd in my cannot resist.)
Despite what The Soup says, “In the news this morning everybody” are my second favorite words to wake up to.

Did you know there’s a “Ann Curry is Hot” Facebook group? Neither did I until just now (no I don’t Facebook), but I have to say I like their “Nothing But Curry” thing there.
Not on board yet, check out this clip.

So there we see:
1.) Intelligent women FTW! (big score there)
2.) she gestures a lot (me too)
3.) she does what needs to be done so that bigger things can be done later (talk about my daily grind…sheesh!)
4.) she has “a history of being able to get people to talk”. (DITTO!)
and then there’s reason #5.) she’s human, but she’s still a fighter:
“The reason I have to fight every time to do these stories is because the truth is that it’s hard to get the majority of Americans or even a significant number of Americans in NBC, Fox, ABC, CBS’s world, to care…. I think journalism is a battle and I feel the scars and I see the blood on my sword on a daily basis for fights for foreign coverage to be more present in our broadcasting.”

I recently told someone that I want to become a writer. In truth, that’s only one of a handful of things I wish I was. Regretably, though, when inspiration strikes and I think I’m on the verge of “The Great American Novel”, it turns out that I can write two pages of great dialogue…… and nothing more.
